BELMONT – On Friday, the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency (ACIDA) hosted a joint press conference with representatives from Allegany County, LaBella Engineering, and Evingham Site Excavation, to announce the beginning of construction on the Crossroads Waterline Project.  As previously reported, Evingham Site Excavation of Bolivar was awarded the Waterline Project contract back in May.  Work at the Crossroads site, located at the intersection of Allegany County Route 20 and State Route 19 in Belmont, will begin prior to August 1.

The beginning of construction on the Waterline Project culminates roughly 12 years of effort to provide water to the Crossroads site, a development that will support the long-term vision for this site, which includes adding a fueling station, hotel, and restaurant to the area.  Projected benefits of development at the Crossroads site include adding new jobs and increased revenue from sales tax, bed tax, and property taxes for the County.  Extending water service to this area also ensures that the NYSDOT rest stop on I-86, where an estimated 676 vehicles stop each day and which currently relies on well water that has tested high for arsenic in the past, will remain open and have access to a dependable water source.

“We are extremely pleased to announce the beginning of development at the Crossroads with the start of construction on the Crossroads Waterline Project.  This project will provide water to the site from Friendship,” said Executive Director of the ACIDA Craig Clark.  “This is possible due to the vision and persistence of many collaborators, including the Allegany County Legislators, the Town of Friendship, and the ACIDA.”

“A project like this takes hard work, cooperation, and long-term commitment from numerous individuals and groups.  The Board of Legislators has anxiously awaited this day and looks forward to future development projects spurred by this waterline investment,” stated Allegany County Legislative Board Chairman Curt Crandall.
